Website Updates
We are continually seeking ways to improve our commercial property
website and promoting our clients’ properties. We have recently introduced
Microsoft Virtual Earth Mapping technologies for all new properties. For
example Unit B3 Chaucer Business Park,
(see the map link) this allows
interested parties to not only review a road map to determine
communication and access to visit the property, but also aerial views to
allow them to zoom in on the property – this is to the scale of a car
space. Why not try it for yourself!
The Green Register
McMeeking Chartered Surveyors have attended the Green Register as part of
their commitment to sustainable building practice and advice for clients.
The Green Register is an opportunity for construction professionals to
show not only their commitment to sustainable practice but also through
training and seminars to develop their skills (www.greenregister.org).
Energy Performance Certificates
Following the introduction of Home Information Packs (HIP) the
Government is introducing one element of the HIP to the world of the
commercial property market – the Energy Performance Certificate. This will
mean from April 2008 all properties over 500 sq.m. will require a
certificate and from October virtually every commercial property requires
an Energy Performance Certificate. There are limited exemptions but if you
are proposing to sell or lease your property in 2008 it is almost certain
you will require a certificate. Failure to do so will result in a fine.

Further Appointment
We are delighted that Bill McConnell has joined us as a consultant
building surveyor. Bill has been with us for a matter of weeks and is
already in the thick of surveys, schedules of condition, design advice and
dilapidations. Certainly he is a welcome addition to our company.
Kent Design: Showcased
We are pleased that Northfleet Developments Limited’s
Mill Place has had a Kent Design
Award nomination for a rainwater harvesting scheme which provides recycled
water for the toilet facilities. Not only does this create savings to
occupiers but will be taken into account when Energy Performance
Certificates are essential for the units. Importantly, the entire 82,000
sq.ft. complex has been let within three months of completion.
